Impleneting Section Targeting to get relevant ads

Very often, people are curious why they do not have relevant ads in their site. I must admit that the relevancy of your ads are very important, as it directly affect the CTR in your site. People tend to click more if you have ads that are highly relevant to your content. Although Google claims to have a sophisticated system that can effectively crawl the keyword of your site, there are many circumstances that publishers cannot get targeted ads. What to do if you cannot get relevant ads? The answer is to use "Section Targeting".

Section targeting allows you to suggest sections of your text and HTML content that you'd like us to emphasize or downplay when matching ads to your site's content. By providing us with your suggestions, you can enable Google to crawl a more appropiate keyword and get better targeted ads. However, Google only suggests that only those familiar with HTML should try to use section targeting. If you are justa a newbie in using HTML, ignore it or ask some professionals to help you.

To implement section targeting, you'll need to add a set of special HTML comment tags to your code. These tags will mark the beginning and end of whichever section(s) you'd like to emphasize or de-emphasize for ad targeting.
The HTML tags to emphasize a page section take the following format:

With these tags added to your HTML code in your site, your ultimate code will look like this:

You can use section targeting to make suggestions about as many sections of a page as you like. However, please be aware that we can't guarantee results, and that it may take up to 2 weeks before Google's crawler takes into account any changes you've made to your site.

In order to properly implement this feature, you'll need to include a significant amount of content within the section targeting tags. Including insufficient content may result in less relevant ads or PSA. In addition, please keep in mind that this section ttargteing feature should only be used to emphasize significant sections of your site's relevant content. It is against our program policies to manipulate the ad targeting to result in ads that are not relevant to the content of your pages.

Hope this section targeting can help you in getting more relevant ads, and lead to greater revenue!!

Does google check the other pages of the domain?? or only the page which has Adsense?

Yes. You are right. Google will only check the page that has adsense ads. Even though the rest of the sites are violating the Google's policies, it will have nothing to do with your adsense ads and your account.

Thanks for the questions.

Hi Jaya,

There is no limitation for you to place that Section targeting code. Only when you think there is a section that have enough desirable keywords, you can then place the code to encapsulate that section.

Sorry for my belated reply adn hope you can put a backlink to my site.

i dont really understand html - do i have to include that in my blogger's template or in every post i think is important?

also, i've seen many new blogs (without a lot of contents) but still get non-PSA ads - is that because they've got section targeting?

Thanks very much - i'm amazed that u r only 23 but know that much!

btw - i m just curious - is this site maintained by a group of people or just you?

lasilasi,

You do not have to include every posts. In blogger, you can find the template tab, click that and you can see the HTML source. Use the script I mentioned to include those keywords.

Because Google's bot is very powerful enough, and can determine which kind of ads should be delivered to those less-content blog. Your case is pretty uncommon.

For the final question, I am 23 and need to cater Adsense and my Master degree at the same time. This site is maintained and organized by me alone.

Hope it helps and look forward to hearing you soon.

Hi
Wow you learn something new everyday - this is very cool - when I add articles (using joomla) I'll edit the html tags and add the code you've suggested where I think the most keywords are used in the article!
Great stuff and amany thanks!
Cheers,
Arthur

Hi, this is what I have been looking for for a while now and I am so glad I found your article. I put the start and end HTML codes you listed in several posts throughout my blog, all of which have adsense, but I but it before and after single or double words such as "couture fashion" or "modern textiles" or "pottery". I know there may not be adds out there for these very specific topics, but is this enough content for the crawler to pick up. I'm trying to avoid low end adds by being specific.
Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for your comment. Yes, since the ad database is so huge, Google can definitely deliver specific and targeted as on "couture fashion" or "modern textiles" or "pottery".

Please also put a back link to my site to help more Adsense newbies.

I'm a bit concerned about this comment from Arthur :-

"I put the start and end HTML codes you listed in several posts throughout my blog, all of which have adsense, but I but it before and after single or double words such as "couture fashion" or "modern textiles" or "pottery"."

You DO realise that the code has to go in the SOURCE CODE and NOT just in the post dont you?

Right, Daz30.

The section targeting code has to go with the HTML source, but not inside each post.

Hi,

I was trying to add section targeting to my blog http://tronprog.blogspot.com since the ads are not relevant (at least in the home page, while single posts seem to be better).

I was trying to put section targeting around the "Labels" widget, but even if I save the changes then the section targeting is removed in the final output (I tried to put also some foo text and that one appears in the final output), can't see why...

I then chose to make the ads appear after the posts, and noticed that the section targeting is automatically added .

However, the ads in the home page are still not relevant...

any clue please?

thanks in advance
(and compliments for your blog)

Hi, very interesting reading about section targeting. You seem to be knowledgable on this subject so i have a question, you may be able to answer. If I wanted to display syndicated ads onto a site where the page content changes each time, is there any ad network that actually looks at the page at the time it is displayed in order to display relevant ads. I am thinking about a user generated content website, where a user does a search and the responding page shows content that is relevant to the user's search. Obviously you'd also want any syndicated ads on that page to be relevant. So far, if i understand correctly, the keywords targetting of the ad delivery is not done on teh fly like this (although I had assumed it was until i started reading more). Is there a way that you know of?
Great blog.

Nice demonstration . Many people tear their hair off just because they can not make adsense show relevant ads . Great work .

Hi kashif,

Thanks for that. The main reason for me to write this blog is to share more Adsense tips with the newbies. Thanks for your support.
